The young stallion's hooves clicked in an impatient tumult, echoing off the empty stone halls of the large caves system. To remain still would be to go mad. The endless dripping of water, the whistling of wind through near-closed spaces was irritating and made Roarke bristle. Still, this would be his home, and no other would have it. He charged forward, a mix of youth and recklessness, seeking to find the heart of this system. He would find it an hour later after careful tracking of dead ends and watching to avoid breaking a leg in any of the holes dug in the rock by years of slowly grating water. The largest room had a crystalline pool in the middle, fed by rainfall and a few sparse streams of water that wove their way in from the outside and through cracks in the rock. The pool held a few large fish, brightly colored and quite beautiful of a species he did not know the name of, nor he had never seen before. It was nearly forty feet across with a calming teal color near the outside edges, and a deep purple in the middle, where it was nearly six feet to the bottom. It was large enough that a few equines could bathe in it, though chill to the touch. Only in the height of summer when the sun was over head would there be any time that one would wish to swim. Above there was a large circular opening, slightly larger than the pool of water and casting both sunlight and moonlight into the main hall. There was a sheer drop of fifty feet from the outside world into the cave, though this was blocked by thick trees around the rim which dropped their long vines downward, reaching towards the residents of the land. This was his home, his future herd, he would treat it well and it would grow beneath him. He reached his skull upwards and roared his claim to the sky, daring any to come find the lion of the caves.
